PROMPT: What is your least favorite chore and why?

You know, I’m almost 50 years old (I’ll be 49 in December) and I’ve resigned myself to household chores. They are a part of life and life is SO much better when things are clean and put away. The act of cleaning gives you something to occupy your mind and things being clean & neat tame the chaos. That being said, I had to pick my LEAST favorite — I mean I don’t like any of them, but I find a way to get things done effectively. Got a sink full of dirty dishes? Turn on music or a podcast. Have to clean the bathroom? Blast loud metal music to make it go faster! Laundry to fold? Watch a documentary and fold.

That being said, I have to say that my least favorite “chore,” which is something that has to be done over and over to maintain order is this: wake up my sixteen-year-old son. Because THAT is truly a chore!

Let’s face it, teenagers want to sleep when we don’t want them to, but won’t when we need them to. Mine likes to get up in the middle of the night and stay up doing things. If I take away his computer and phone, he will simply stay up and read a book ALL. THE. WAY. THROUGH. While I used to do that too, I’d live with being tired. However, these books are almost always NEVER the ones for school. NEVER!

Another fun fact: it’s a teenager’s job to be an @$$hole…it is. They are learning their boundaries and exercising their rights. I don’t, however, have to like it! My guy does not want to wake up on time. It’s a chore getting him up and out the door timely. He hates school, so he’s not exactly in a hurry to get there. THAT is my least favorite chore. The good news, he’s in 9th grade and is my youngest child…I only have four more years of this!!!!
