PROMPT: What makes you pick-up or buy a book?
Easy Answer: Because it’s a book???
Honestly, I’m sure the flashiness of the book or the title initially grabs me, but ultimately the reading of the plot synopsis on the dust jacket or back cover, it ultimately propels me to read said book. I do take into consideration the author, as well as their credentials.
If it’s an author that I regularly read, that’s a “no brainer”…no more qualifications needed! If it’s some sort of expert (doctor, therapist, etc.) I have to know more about them and their subject matter. The synopsis might grab me, but if I think they’re full of BS, I won’t read it. A good example of this would be Dr. Phil. I love self-help books, but I want to read credible ones!
