This is a WONDERFUL resource for anyone, but especially those who are starting over, due to trauma AND have been financially abused. *Slowly raises hand.*

This curriculum is meant to be taught by a domestic abuse advocate, but survivors can definitely download the curriculum and participate in the online tool. What’s discussed is the following modules:

  • Understanding Financial Abuse
  • Learning Financial Fundamentals
  • Mastering Credit Basics
  • Building Financial Foundations
  • Long-Term Planing

Upon completion, a “certificate of completion” can be downloaded, printed and proudly displayed. Here is mine from the beginning of the year.

The Allstate Foundation Moving Ahead Curriculum: this educational resource has been designed to help domestic violence survivors achieve financial independence and rebuild their lives. The curriculum covers a variety of important financial topics including budgeting, managing debt and improving credit and has been proven to help survivors move from short-term safety to long-term security. The curriculum is available online and for download below in English, Spanish French and Vietnamese.
