PROMPT: Use the library OR buy books (for reading).
I am a big proponent of using the library, simply because I am a single Mom of three, grandmother of one, and soon-to-be-mother-in-law to one…basically, I have three adults, one teen, and one small child living with me. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS EXTRA MONEY!
Our library has a great selection of books, DVDs, magazines, etc. If they don’t have the book I want, I can do “interlibrary loan.” The only complaint I have is the waiting list for new books is impossible! Our library is also has a “maker’s lab,” that has a Cricut, and a large media printer, and a other things for people to possibly start a business with.
My fallback is purusing the books at Goodwill and/or Salvation Army. Those prices are hard to beat. If I am going on a trip, I will get be a book there, so I’m not dealing with late fees. Plus, if I lose it, it’s not a big deal.
I have been this way for a long time. When I lost my corporate job in 2009, I went through all of my books and took them to our local used bookstore — due to the fact that I had to go on unemployment and cut back on frivolous things. I also curbed buying off of Amazon and all extra spending.
Library is primary! <3
