An alternate title to this blog post COULD be “I’ve Decided to Stop Being a Grinch.” The winter holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas) always put me into a foul funk. I still grieve not being a complete family this time of year, due to DV. I grieve my Mom’s death. I grieve being so far away from my Dad and siblings (and their families). I feel financial stressors this time of year. I feel all of the feels (grief, sadness, anger). I feel guilty for surviving be killed…it’s very hard to put into words that swirling of all those emotions. I really feel like the lack of light is the catalyst after clocks get set back and it’s dark by 5 PM. Just ugh.

However, it is now AFTER Thanksgiving and I usually start watching Christmas movies to get me in the spirit. I always have, even while in active abuse, watched Christmas movies to “escape,” much to my Abuser’s annoyance. I do watch some Hallmark movies, but not like I used to. Instead, I used to watch the “25 Days of Christmas” on ABC Family, but now I do not because I no longer have [costly] cable. Plus, Hallmark movies only have like 5 plots total, so their kitschy movies are VERY predictable. I do, however, enjoy the Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel, so I’m trying to figure out how to get that (cheaply or FREE), as mysteries always make me feel closer to my Mom. Reading and watching mysteries was our “thing.” Alas, so was watching BBC, so I’m also considering a Brit Box subscription.

So, as I was mindlessly scrolling Facebook, I encountered a social media ad for QVC+ HSN+. It was to view a free holiday movie, produced by them, for FREE. Whaaaaaat!?! I’m intrigued. I entered my email and started watching. The movie, “The Recipe Files,” is a holiday whodunit. I had to watch and see how this combination of genres turned out. All I can say is, sign up for it NOW!

QVC+ HSN+ IS exactly what you think it is: the home shopping network(s). This movie is produced by them, has the hosts that you may know and love, as well as familiar actors. They do pepper the movie with items that they sell, but it’s not over-the-top. Most of it is just clever product placement. The movie gets interrupted temporarily, a few times, for commentary, but it is still very enjoyable. I highly recommend this movie! It’s a lovely, cute combination of Christmas, romance, drama, and mystery. It’s a holiday MUST watch!

Click on the link above under SOURCE. Go to “Movie Mall” and enter your email. Then, choose “The Recipe Files,” and enjoy! They do have other movies I am going to have to check out. I do believe you will be very pleasantly surprised!

Love and light and holiday movies! <3
