I cannot speak for any of my readers, but I have to hydrate like crazy and the price of gallons of water makes that not possible. My tap water is drinkable, but I live in an area with A MEGATON of limestone. The tap water is a bit bitter and has floating minerals in it, so we purchase gallons of spring water for drinking and making coffee and iced tea. We also do not have an ice maker in our current refrigerator, so we purchase bags of ice at convenience stores, which is also rather pricey. It’s crazy the cost of staying hydrated!
I was purchasing a gallon of water at Walmart for $1.22/gallon…a price that has jumped up from 99 cents per gallon, post COVID-19. However, my teenage son was the one that brought the Twice the Ice ice house to my attention. Ironically, someone told me about the refillable water dispensers at Kroger for 50 cents per gallon, but it was broken when I went to use them — my teenage son then told me we needed to try this “large vending machine thing” he saw, describing it like it was the size of a small gas station. Well, IT IS. At the Twice the Ice servicing stations, a person can purchase a bag of ice made from purified water, for $2 for a 20 lb bag. Whoa! I was paying $5 for two 7 lb bags! Debit cards are accepted for bags of ice, as the ice house vending machine and everything is self-serve and automated.
You can also fill gallon jugs of water (you bring your own jugs), for 25 cents per gallon, or $1 per 3 gallon container (like for personal water coolers). Wowza, again! That’s SUPER cheap! For what I could buy a gallon of water for at Walmart, I can purchase nearly 5 gallon jugs, if I simply refill my jugs! Really, the only drawback on the water at these stations is that you have to pay for THAT in cash. That’s still a win in my book! The cash machine takes coins and bills and makes change, so no worries there!
Also, if you download the ice company’s app, it’ll help you locate your nearest ice house to your current location. You also get a free bag for registering your email! I promise! I got mine the other day and it was amazing! Not just getting a free bag, but the vending of the bag of ice was entertaining!
