I’m not very festive this year, honestly. I love my country, and despite what’s going on int he world currently, I still think it is the greatest country in the world. However, there was a time the “colonies” were thought of as “less than”…much like many of us as survivors are/were…
I always think of my own independence, along with the anniversary of my country’s. My actual independence day was September 14, 2017, but I still think on it. It will be five years in a few months…WOW!
However, this day got me thinking…you are a bad guy in someone’s story. The colonials were “bad guys” to England. Thankfully, we’re allies NOW, but not then. We wanted to be independent and on our own! Look at us NOW! History does not always always portray good sides of things, but we need to see both sides after-the-fact.
I was raised in Memphis, Tennessee and I cannot relate how much the American Civil War (1861 to 1865) was referred to as the “War of Northern Aggression.” Not. Even. Kidding! Yeah, um Southerners, WHOM fired on Fort Sumter? Y’all started it…there, I said what I said…I may not be allowed back in the South now…

Living in the South can definitely be culture shock, but I am glad that I was raised in the South. I have good manners, I love Sweet Tea, and biscuits and gravy is FIRE! But, “Yankees” were the “bad guys,” because the North wouldn’t let the South go. Maybe we were a clingy significant other, but it just illustrates my point: you are going to be the “bad guy” in someone’s story. That’s their business. YOU have to live YOUR life and not live in the past. Living in the Present is truly a GIFT from God, especially if you are alive and reading this now. You lived to be a testimony to the fact that tyranny will not prevail!
Happy Independence Day! Be free and live life!
